Gage turned seven months old today. Tomorrow he'll be getting an ECHO first thing in the morning to see whether or not there has been any improvement in his heart function since they stopped the Sotalol. Gage had a severe episode of SVT Friday night that had us extremely worried. The 270 BPM heart rate apparently caused his blood pressure to drop which resulted in a moment of very little blood flow to his brain.
He seemed to go "blank" and became unresponsive. Extremely scary and we can't help but wonder if there will be some kind of brain damage when moments like that happen. Fortunately the adenosine dose broke him from his SVT and Gage became alert again. It had taken only about three days for the Sotalol to leave his system and allow the SVT to kick in. The ECHO should show us whether the heart function has improved or not.
The theory still remains that if the function did improve, then it stands to reason that the Sotalol was doing a little more than controlling Gage's SVT. However, if his function did not improve, it means something else is hindering Gage's heart. Either way, it sounds like intubation and a trip to the catheterization lab is in the near future.
