Gage went in to surgery this morning right at 7:30AM EST. We were told that surgery would last approximately eight hours and that Gage would need to be on the heart & lung bypass machine for a majority of the operation. It's been almost 11 hours now and Gage is still on bypass. The calls we get from the nurse updating us on his condition offer nothing in the way of comfort. We're told "he is still on bypass and they are working on his valve."
With every new call we anticipate someone telling us that surgery is complete and that we can head up to see our baby. We're clueless as to how things are going and can only sit and wonder about what may be going on. Are they repairing his valve? Did they decide to replace it? The last call we received was to inform us that our liason nurse for the surgical team was ending her shift and a new liason would be taking over.
You know it's been a long surgery when people begin to go home and Gage is still in the OR.
